Honey mesquite, 11”L x 8”W x 7”H. No longer available.

This is one of my earliest core sculptures. It was taken from the base of a large mesquite I found on a roadside north of San Angelo, Texas in the early 2000s. It had been bulldozed decades earlier, and the core is the extremely resistant heartwood at the base of the tree. Cross sections of numerous stem and root bases are visible on its surface, as well as the tunnels made by the larvae of wood boring insects.
