Honey mesquite, 15.5”L x 10”W x 15.5”H. No longer available.

I don’t normally name my sculptures, but I call this early piece “The Thorax.” The top of the piece is the root ball, and the bottom is the remaining base of the tree’s trunk. This piece illustrates how large roots sometimes grow around stones then grow together with other roots, forming loops. This piece also illustrates the effects of heart rot, which created the large cavity extending into the trunk, and the tunnels of wood boring insect larvae.
