Decorative burl ring sculptures, Sizes ranging from 6” to 10” in diameter.

These pieces were cut from burls in the process of forming around long-dead branches of an enormous post oak felled by heart rot. When when the branches died, the live wood at its base proceeded to grow around it. When the dead branch rotted and broke off, usually near its base, the surrounding wood gradually grew around and over its remains, which in most cases had completely rotted away. I left the bark on some of these pieces; on others it has been removed and sanded to show the intricate patterns of light sapwood and darker heart wood below. All the pieces were finished with multiple coats of pure tung oil. These pieces make perfect bases to display small plants like tillandsias, ferns, and sellaginellas.
