Post oak, 28.5L x 12”W x 5”H.

This large post oak bowl was carved from a large, long-dead slightly curved trunk. White rot had removed the sapwood while the tree was still standing, leaving only beautiful resistant heartwood. The long weathering process had produced fine cracks at the ends, spalting extending from one end into the middle of the piece, and a few small tunnels, probably with work of wood ants. This large piece has long been one of my favorites and is an ideal bowl to display fruit or dried arrangements.
