Ashe juniper, 19"L x 15"W x 3.5"H. No longer available.

This shallow bowl was carved from the base of a multi-stemmed Ashe juniper (mountain cedar) tree. The annual rings of the central trunk can be seen in the center of the piece, and each lobe is the result of a lateral stem that grew outward and upward from the central trunk. The inner darker areas, often with evident growth rings, are heart wood while the outer lighter colored wood is sap wood. The dark stringy juniper bark has been largely removed, and the piece has been treated with multiple coats of tung oil.
