Black walnut, 13”L x 8”W x 2.5”H.

This small, shallow black walnut bowl was cut from the trunk of the tree rescued by my father from the banks of the Leon River in Central Texas in 1957. I cut a slab of wood from the outside of a slight bend in the trunk, and when I carved out the center of the bowl, the beautiful growth rings were revealed. This piece, like many of my bowls, has thick and rounded sides, reminding me of the corpulent curves of the figures in a Fernando Botero painting.
